This symposium addressed several issues of value to photographers, and to anyone interested in photo books, as photographers, designers, publishers, curators. I spoke of my experience producing Gas Stop with Steidl.
Photographer David Freund writes on his fascination with a humble, yet ubiquitous fixture in American architecture: the gas station.
Freund lends a compositional elegance to quotidian locations, pulling together elements that on their own would be the height of banality… happening upon a modest drama on the local and national level as the mobile populace converged to refuel.
